|
Four people were killed in a small plane crash at the Wendover, Utah, airport Wednesday afternoon.
The Wendover airport is located on the south side of Wendover, near the Utah-Nevada border in Tooele County, Utah. The Tooele County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the airplane crash happened at about 2:45 p.m., and that it involved a small, privately-owned plane. The sheriff's office said that investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration were handling the crash site and inspecting the wreckage. The FAA later confirmed that a Cessna 172 aircraft with four people on board that was attempting to land Runway 26 when it crashed. The four passengers were in a small Cessna that was attempting to land for a fuel stop, said Wendover Airport director Jim Petersen. He did not know where the plane was coming from or going. The plane crashed 300 to 400 feet north of the runway, Petersen said. Witnesses say it hit the ground, went back into the air, then crashed. Another witness said the plane was flying low and obviously in trouble when it hit a berm and went end over end. The Wendover Airport Manger reported the accident to the FAA.
